Rabbit rabbit! Happy August! Where does the time go?
July felt both long and quick, as we have been all over the place for the past few weeks. We were traveling for 15 days out of the 31 in July. For all of the jet-setting we did, we did not make it to the beach once! This photo was taken a few years ago, and it makes me smile.
We are staying put in August. I am looking forward to enjoying the city in all of its summer splendor: hot streets, breezy outdoor yoga classes, long walks, dining alfresco and light nights.
Despite the fact that we were gone for half of last month, I still managed to get in 24 workouts. I know that because I keep track with Move Your Booty. MYB is a movement, a mission to redefine fitness. It was founded by my friend Emily, a total rockstar, a cool chick, a workout warrior, and an all-around amazing person. It's an online community that allows you to log your workouts alongside your fellow MYBers, cheer each other on, and draw inspiration from one another. Your workout log is kind of like a Twitter feed... others can follow it, "heart" your activities, and leave you comments. And if you live in NYC, you can get in on the fitness meet-ups and events!
The overall goal of MYB is for each individual to complete 22 workouts in the span of each calendar month. The idea is that if you do anything 22 times, it becomes a habit. I have to admit that in July my workouts were a bit more quality than quantity. I was worried about being out of my routine and tried to squeeze in exercise whenever I could. I hit PureBarre in Miami, SoulCycle in West Hollywood, Yoga80 in San Diego and RIDE in Austin... plus hotel gyms. Love a good hotel gym.
Sometimes it's easy - and tempting - to do a "sure thing" workout - one that's more about convenience, less about challenge. For me, that's usually a few miles on the elliptical and some squats or weights afterward. Yes, it's better to do something than nothing, but that can't be my rationalization every morning! This month, I want to focus on quality over quantity (while still managing to hit 22 workouts). I want to work on strengthening my abs and arms. I'm writing that here so you can hold me accountable!
Are you working on your fitness and need a witness? (I couldn't help myself.) Subscribe to Move Your Booty here and join the movement here. If you do join, make sure you let me know in the comments so I can follow you!
Here's to a super, sweaty August. Have a great weekend!
