AULD LANG SYNE

Stopping by real quick this AM to first and foremost wish all of fellow MOT a L'Shanah Tovah. Happy New Year!

I don't know about you, but I couldn't be more ready for a fresh start, and this year I feel extra grateful for two New Years - this one, and our traditional calendar New Year in December. I will take all the clean slates I can get. You're a bitch, 2014. You too, 5774.

Let's do this.

I spent the evening eating too many slices of challah (I lost count around #5) and playing a Hello Kitty board game that bore a striking resemblance to Candy Land. Here's an action shot.

This morning, I woke up and realized that I need to take this new year as an opportunity to make real and lasting change. Usually I wait until January to put actions into motion, but there's a chance right in front of me to turn over a new leaf and I'm not going to waste it.

Truthfully, every day is a fresh start, but I'm super appreciative of the extra symbolism that today brings.

Today I am also remembering a post I wrote six years ago called "Temple Talk," about how my mom was scouting boyfriend prospects for me during High Holiday services. She was always on the lookout for me and was set on being the one who found me the man of my dreams. In the end, I found him myself, but she loved him from the moment they met. She knew he was the one before I did. True story.

Mothers know best. And synagogue won't be nearly as entertaining without her.

Time to go eat breakfast and pray. No matter what you're celebrating today, I hope it's a good one.
