My weekday lifestyle has changed a lot in the past year. I've gone from working a long-term freelance gig in which I was at a hip office every day and dressing with the probability that I'd be meeting with other editors or PR people at any given moment... to working part-time and from home and going to school. Now, I'm in sneakers 90% of the time Monday through Friday. I wear a LOT of leggings. And I no longer wear a full face of makeup on a daily basis.
However, I'm 30 now, and I've finally come to appreciate the beauty (no pun intended) of having a minimal morning routine - one that makes me feel put together but is still very minimal. Most importantly, it takes less than five minutes start to finish. I no longer get the beauty swag I used to (which is a bummer) but I'm still passionate about good products and finding what works.
Below are the seven items I use every single day, no matter what.
Kiehl's Micro-Blur Skin Perfector. This is the very first thing I put on, and since it's a small tube and a bit on the pricey side, I use it just on my forehead lines. It really does what it says and helps blur them out.
H2O Plus Eye Oasis Instant Hydrating Stick. A few swipes under each eye helps wake me up, and the cooling effect is lovely. I put all this on around 6:15 most mornings so the stimulation is much appreciated.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer. I've had eczema my whole life and have long depended on Aveeno creams and oatmeal baths to help ease the itch. I never thought of it in a cosmetic sense until recently, though, when I decided to give this a whirl. Two pumps of this brightens and hydrates my complexion.
Pur Minerals Disappearing Ink Concealer. This is pretty new to my routine but so far, so good. It doesn't crease, which is key for me.
Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream. I've always loved Aveeno products and this one is no exception. It gives somewhere in between light and medium coverage, and it goes onto the skin beautifully. I apply this with Tarte Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush... it's without a doubt the best makeup brush I have ever bought.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel. I'm so glad I finally decided to try this. Many of you know that I love the "bold brow" look, and for so long I was really adamant about making my eyebrows look as painstakingly perfect as possible every day, and it was undoubtedly the longest part of my makeup routine each morning. I've eased up a bit after realizing the look can be a bit severe, and I decided that I still need to fill in my brows every day but they can't still look natural. The tinted gel is perfect for achieving this. I use the Brow Wiz when I need my brows to look a bit more sophisticated.
Dior 'Diorskin Healthy Glow' Enhancing Powder Bronzer. For the most part, I try to stick to beauty brands that err on the side of more natural and plant-based, but I will always make an exception for Dior. I have used and loved their products since college. This bronzer imparts the perfect glow and it also comes with a great little kabuki brush. I find that most of the time brushes that come with products are pretty crappy, but I actually love and use this one each time I apply this powder.
A few things... There isn't any mascara pictured because I currently have eyelash extensions, so I haven't worn any mascara in weeks. Man, that could be a whole post in of itself. It's been an interesting experience. Before I got the extensions, I was using Dior Addict It-Lash. For eye makeup, I like Tarte's Longwear Eyeliner (I find most felt tip liquid liners don't go on smoothly and evenly, but this one does) and a bareMinerals palette I bought last year.
Once a product junkie, always a product junkie. It's nice to finally feel like I have a set, streamlined early morning routine. What skin and/or beauty items are you using and loving lately?
